Political Scientist, Lawyer, Journalist
I am at Princeton University for Spring 2022, as visiting associate professor in the politics department, and as visiting research scholar at the MS Chadha center for global India.
I am currently on leave from Ashoka University (near Delhi) where I am associate professor (with tenure) in political science & legal studies. I am also the head of department.
I have degrees from National Law School Bangalore and Harvard University, and a PhD in politics from Princeton University. My dissertation focussed on the impact of court judgements.
Aside from articles in scholarly journals and newspapers, I have written two books.
The first was a biography of P.V. Narasimha Rao. Published in India (Penguin) and in the United States (OUP), it was translated into Hindi, Tamil, & Telugu. The best-seller was called 'A Book Of The Year' by The Economist & part of Amazon.com's '100 books to read in a lifetime'. It is being made into a web-series of the same name.
The second book, a political history of the BJP Before Modi, has been published in India (Penguin), UK (Hurst) & US (Hurst, with distribution by OUP). It has also been a best-seller, and has been translated into Hindi, Telugu, and Marathi.
