Political Scientist, Lawyer, Journalist
I teach at Ashoka University (near Delhi) where I am associate professor (with tenure) in political science & legal studies. I am also currently the head of department.
I have degrees from National Law School Bangalore and Harvard University, and a PhD in politics from Princeton University. My dissertation focussed on the impact of court judgements.
Aside from articles in scholarly journals and newspapers, I have written two books.
The first was a biography of P.V. Narasimha Rao, prime minister of India from 1991 to 1996. The book was published in India in 2016 and in the United States in 2017. It was also translated into Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. The award-winning best-seller was called 'A Book Of The Year' by The Economist; It was part of Amazon.com's '100 books to read in a lifetime'.
The second book, a political history of the BJP Before Modi, has been published by Penguin Random House in India. It is being translated into Hindi (by Penguin), Telugu (by EMESCO), and Marathi (By Rohan Prakashan). The scholarly edition will be published in the United Kingdom by Hurst Publishers in mid-2021, with distribution in the United States by Oxford University Press-USA.
